Flux
The flux through a given surface describes how much of a vector function, for example an electric or a magnetic field, passes through that surface.

For an uniform electric field $\textbf{E}$ and an area vector $\textbf{A}$ the flux $\Phi$ becomes: $$\Phi = \textbf{E} \cdot \textbf{A}. \tag{1}$$
